On a trecherous November night, 1869, the ship Marie Gabrielle met it's fate. Whilst carrying tea on route from China to Melbourne, Gabrielle was driven ashore by strong southery winds, crashing into reef at Moonlight Head, on Victoria's Shipwreck Coast. When all seemed lost, this anchor was Gabrielle's "shining star". It secured the ship, allowing the crew to reach the shore, effectively saving the lives of all aboard. Over 140 years on, although weathered and rusty, the "shining star" that is Gabrielle's anchor can still be seen today.
