"Larapuna"is the Aboriginal name for the area that is more commonly known as Eddystone Point, in Tasmania's Mount William National Park. It is the northern-most point of the Bay of Fires conservation area. In response to many ships being wrecked off the north-east coast, the Eddystone Point Lighthouse was erected in 1889 using granite quarried from the shores below. Walking the shores beneath the lighthouse today, evidence of the quarrying can still clearly be seen.

The 250 meter Eddystone Point Beach consists of pure white sand and turquoise coloured water. This beautiful beach is in our opinion the best in Tasmania, and more often than not, you have the whole place to yourself! Whilst walking and swimming in this secluded paradise, we noticed some interesting rocky outcrops toward the eastern end of the beach. As water washed over the pristine white sand, the vibrant blue sky was reflected on the beach. Photography doesn't get much more pleasurable than this.
