The Tarkine is a 447,000 hectare wilderness area in Tasmania's north west. It holds ancient relics of both flora and fauna that date back millions of years. The name "Tarkine" is derived from the Aboriginal "Tarkineer" tribe who once inhabited the area. It has a high concentration of Aboriginal sites and has been described as "one of the world's great archaeological regions" by the Australian Heritage Council. The rugged Tarkine coast has the longest uninterrupted expanse of ocean and cleanest air on earth.

As we waited for the sun to set, smoke billowed into the sky from a nearby conservational burn-off. We were unsure how the smoke would affect our shot, but as the sun dipped below the rugged island creating a beautiful "starring effect", the smoke glowed bright orange, adding further drama to an already dramatic coast. We were thrilled with the resulting effect, and the element we feared may ruin our shot, enhanced it in a way we could never have imagined or reproduce. Truely a one off!
